Emulex Buys Sierra Logic for $180M
Costa Mesa-based Emulex has acquired Roseville-based Sierra Logic, saying last night that it will pay $180M in cash for the firm. Sierra Logic is a provider of ASIC components and firmware for the enterprise storage systems market, including embedded bridges and routers for connecting Serial ATA (SATA) and Fibre Channel (FC) storage. Sierra Logic employs approximately 70, mostly engineering staff in Roseville. The acquisition is the second for Emulex this year, after the acquisition of Aarohi Communications, an ASIC provider it acquired in April. The storage area networking industry has been seeing major consolidation among both major and minor suppliers.
