Remember those Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes--which are used to classify businesses into different categories? Los Angeles-based data startup Factual does, and has mapped its Places database into the big list of SIC and North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, the firm said Tuesday. Factual, which maintains a giant database-in-the-sky of retail locations, geo-located and associated with all kinds of different information like hours of operation and more, said it has mapped out its categories to those SIC and NAICS codes. The firm said those codes are still used by many of its data partners.
