    Fanista.com Gets Funding, Launches Beta

Beverly Hills-based Fanista.com said yesterday that it has launched its beta web site, and will provide what it calls a "community-powered" marketplace for entertainment. The firm is looking to sell DVDs and CDs, rewarding users for signing up their friends. The firm said it will provide a ten percent commission for purchases made by friends from the site, and also offer ways for fans to share opinions. Fanista.com is headed by Dan Adler, who has previously been at the Creative Artists Agency and Walt Disney Imagineering. According to a report in the New York Times, Fanista is backed by Alticor, the parent company behind multi-level marketer Amway. Amount of the funding was not disclosed.
