FreeConference.com Gets Unblocked
Los Angeles-based free conference calling firm FreeConference.com, one of the firms being blocked by major telecom carriers AT&T, Qwest, and Sprint Nextel, said today that the firm's services have been unblocked by Sprint Nextel, along with the other services. The operations of firms providing free calling services was halted earlier this month when major U.S. telecommunications carriers suddenly stopped allowing calls to the firms, which rely on toll rules to rural area codes for revenue. An ongoing legal battle between Iowa telecommunications firms, which are providing termination services for companies like FreeConference.com, and the major U.S. carriers is ongoing. FreeConference.com is owned by Global Conference Partners, which is owned by private equity firm American Capital Strategies.
