Fresh Dish Launches Dinner Delivery Service, Backed by Science

Don't know what to make for dinner? The latest startup out of Santa Monica-based technology incubator Science, Inc., Fresh Dish, launched this morning, saying that it will solve that problem, by providing meal delivery service to families every week. The new service is aimed at helping consumers prepare fresh, healthy meals at home. The new company has raised $500K from Battery Ventures. Fresh Dish said its meals--which cost as low as $8 per meal per person--provides pre-prepped ingredients and simple recipes, which families can prepare at home. The new startup is headed by Steve Goldstein, the former Senior Vice President and General Manager for ProvideCommerce. Fresh Dish said its services is available in most areas of California, Nevada, and Arizona. The startup enters what looks to be an area of increasing investor interest; another local startup, Popup Pantry is offering up similar, delivered-to-your-home meals, with backing from GRP Partners, CrossCut Ventures, and others; and another, Bay Area startup, Munchery, just announced its move into the LA market offering similar pre-prepped, make-at-home meals.
