Solarflare Announces 10Gbps Over Copper CMOS
Irvine-based Solarflare Communications (www.solarflare.com) announced that it has created a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) chip providing 10 Gbps operation Ethernet over Cat 5e, 6, 6e, and 7 copper cable. The company's new chip makes it possible to run higher Gigabit Ethernet speeds over copper, instead of the usual, more expensive optical fiber. The company had previously demonstrated its transceiver technology, but until now hadn't offered an IC with integrated functionality.
