San Diego Area Teen Scores Top Honors

A San Diego high school senior has won top honors and $100,000 in the Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science and Technology. Aaron Goldin invented a gyroscope that converts ocean wave energy into electricity, desinging the invention from an old tape recorder, answering machine, and household appliances. The invention may be scalable to large off-shore power generation as a replacement for fossil fuel power plants. The winners were announced yesterday at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington DC. The Siemens Westinghouse award comepetition is awarded to encourage youth in the area of science and engineering.
