Sending WiFi Into The Wild

Visitors looking to get it away from it all will have to try harder to avoid the office. California State Parks and SBC Communications this week announced an agreement to roll out wireless access at state parks, starting with San Elijo State Beach outside San Diego. SBC will deploy wireless access in 84 other California State Parks, enabling park visitors to connect to the office through a high speed Wi-Fi connection. According to State Parks Director Ruth Coleman, the department thinks that visitors will appreciate a new service to helps them stay in touch with "family, friends, and even the workplace" when visiting beaches, parks, and hiking. The service requires that visitors sign on as SBC WiFi subscribers or pay WiFi session by session.
