    Asylum Receives Investment From Agilent

Santa Barbara-based Asylum Research and Agilent Technologies said yesterday that the two companies have signed a joint development agreement. The two companies will collaborate on technologies and applications in the nanotechnology measurement area, with Aglient making an equity investment in Asylum. Asylum is developing microscopes for measuring at the nanometer level, and develops measurement tools for researchers working in nanotechnology. The company's Atomic Force Microscopes are used to measure nanometer-scale features of materials, as well as to move molecules and particles. The companies said that the agreement will allow Agilent to develop new features for AFMs and gain more knowledge about the technology and customers. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
