    DARPA Honors Local Companies

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced the winner of its 2005 DARPA Awards for Excellence last week, naming Monrovia-based AeroVironment for its development of the Wasp micro air vehicle; Camarillo-based ISX Corp for its Command Post of the Future (CPOF) team; San Diego-based SYS Technologies for its CPOF work; and the University of Southern California's Center for Advanced Research in Technology for its Tactical Language Training System. DARPA funds a number of advanced technology projects which are applied to the U.S. military. AeroVironment's Wasp vehicle provides real-time images and data for the U.S. military. USC's Tactical Language Training System helps U.S. forces develop skills necessary to communicate with the local populace, and is being used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corp. in Iraq.
