FTC Clamps Down On Los Angeles File Sharing Service

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said yesterday that it is halting the advertising of a Los Angeles-based peer to peer file sharing service site, MP3DownloadCity.com. The FTC said that a U.S. District Court judge has ordered the web site to halt deceptive advertising that claimed that members of the site could trade copyrighted materials without violating the law. The FTC said that it is looking for redress for consumers and that the site notify consumers that they sharing of copyright files may subject them to civil or criminal liability.The FTC said that the site markets and sells a tutorial and reference service promoting the use of Peer to Peer (P2P) software such as Kazaa. The FTC said that the web site is owned by Cashier Myricks Jr.
