Motorola Buys Broadband Innovations

Motorola has acquired San Diego-based Broadband Innovations, a developer of radio frequency (RF) technology and digital signal processing products for the fiber optic transmission market. Financial terms were not disclosed. Motorola said that it would use the acquisition to strengthen its modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) and channel bonding solutions. Motorola's M-CMTS efforts match an industry effort being developed by the CableLabs industry group. Broadband Innovation will continue to be based in San Diego, and Motorola said that many of Broadband's employees will continue on at the firm. Broadband Innovations was funded by Lauder Partners, Motorola, Sandler Capital Management, and Scientific-Atlanta.
