HELIO Launches Services

Los Angeles-based HELIO today launched its youth oriented, mobile phone service, saying that the service is now available nationwide. HELIO, an MVNO which is a joint venture between Earthlink and SK Telecom, said that its services are available through its web site and by the end of the month will be sold at approximately 1,000 retail locations. Among features of HELIO are a mobile connection to the popular MySpace social networking site, group picture and video messaging features, Yahoo search tools, and blogging tools. HELIO has also rolled out its own high-end handset based on designs from Korea as part of the service. The service is going up against Amp'd Mobile, another youth-oriented MVNO headquartered here in Los Angeles, for a share of the trendy youth market.
