Qualcomm Adds Java Multitasking

San Diego-based Qualcomm announced today that its Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets now support Java multitasking. The new capability allows multiple Java virtual machines to run simultaneously on MSM-based mobile phones, and is expected to help customers run multiple programs on their ones at once. The company is targeting the capability of allowing phones to run multiple applications such as playing music, email, and handling voice calls all at the same time--applications which often cannot be run simultaneously on existing generation of cell phones.
