OCP Buys Optical Component Provider

Woodland Hills-based Optical Communications Products, a manufacturer of optical subsystems and modules, said this morning that it has acquired GigaComm, a Taiwanese supplier of passive optical network components, for $20M in cash. GigaComm develops fiber-to-the-home components, supplying components to the Japanese FTTH market. OCP said that the acquisition is part of its strategy to provide a more comprehensive product offering, and to extend the company globally. GigaComm is the leading provider of FTTH components to the Japanese market, and employs roughly 300 employees in Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park in Taiwan.
