Boost Rolls Out Social Mapping App

Irvine-based Boost Mobile Tuesday announced it had rolled out a new, location-based social mapping service, which allows mobile phone users to share their location with their friends. The firm said that it is tapping a startup, loopt, for the service. The service automatically shows the location of friends on a map displayed on Boost mobile phones and alerts users when friends are nearby. Boost said the new service will be offered on a pay-as-you-go basis for $2.99 per month to its existing customers. Boost's social mapping service comes on the heels of the launch of a similar service, "Buddy Beacon" by MVNO upstart Helio.
