QUALCOMM Gives Funding To BREW Projects

San Diego-based Qualcomm announced today that it is giving funding to a set of groups for developing wireless applications based on the firm's BREW application development environment. The funding is targeted at public service applications, and totals $1M. The grand prize winner was Tata Consutancy Services, which is developing a wireless connectivity system for rural farmers in India. Qualcomm also funded a project for tracking avian flu, a text-to-speech application for the visually impaired; a health tracking system for asthma and diabetes; and a literacy program using cell phones.
