SIPphone Releases Local Call Service

San Diego-based SIPphone, the voice-over-IP phone service started by MP3.com's Michael Robertson, announced the release of a calling service targeted at saving on international and long distance calls today. The new service is based on the assignment of local telephone numbers, which are given specifically to friends or businesses to call. The numbers allows people to call users of the firm's SIPphone service toll free via local numbers. The service allows international callers to call local numbers to reach a user without paying international or long distance toll charges, and automatically connects those callers with a user's computer. The new service is available at the company's gizmocall.com web site, and includes up to 120 minutes per day of free inbound calls, and 240 minutes a week. The company charges for additional minutes used for the firm's voice over IP service.
