Verimatrix Sued By Widevine

Widevine, a Seattle-based provider of digital content security products, said Thursday that it has filed a patent infringement suit against San Diego-based Verimatrix, a developer of technology for protecting digital content. Widevine claims that its Verimatrix Content Authority System infringes one of the firm's patents, and that Verimatrix has willingly infringed on the firm's patent rights. Verimatrix said that it rejected the allegations of patent infringement by Widevine, but that it had yet been formally served with the suit. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Verimatrix is backed by Crescendo Ventures, Mission Ventures, and Siemens Venture Cpaital; Widevine is backed by Cisco, Charter Ventures, Constellation Ventures, Dai Nippon Printing Co Ltd., PaceSetter Capital Group, Phoenix Partners, TELUS, and VantagePoint.
