Alelo Scores New Afghan Language Win

Los Angeles-based Alelo, which provides language training systems for the military, said Tuesday that it has scored a contract to develop a system for the Dari language. Dari is one of Afghanistan's two major languages. Alelo said that the deal with the U.S. Army is with the firm's Tactical Language Training subsidiary. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Alelo currently offers language training systems for Iraqi Arabic, Pashto, and French. Alelo, which is a spinoff of the University of Southern California, uses 3-D video game technology to teach people how to both interact and speak foreign languages. The firm's systems use video game graphics, voice recognition, and other technology to teach foreign language and cultures, and has deals with U.S. Army, and the U.S. Marine Corp. for its systems.
