Fabrik Launches Online Backup Service

Santa Ana- and San Mateo-based Fabrik, the startup which purchased the storage business and brand of Santa Ana-based flash memory provider SimpleTech in May, said today that it has launched an online storage and backup software called Fabrik Ultimate Backup. The firm said that it was targeting users looking for a way to backup their photos, movies, music collections, and other documents with the new online storage offering, which the firm said will be available for $4.95 a month. The firm also said that it will be bundling a free version of its online backup service with a new hard drive product it also announced today, under the SimpleTech brand. Fabrik enters a fairly crowded space for online backup services, which has dozens of offerings, including Mozy (recently acquired by EMC), Carbonite, Xdrive, and many others.
