Gemstar-TV Guide Signs European Licensees

Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International has signed on three new companies as licensees of its patents, the firm said Thursday. The companies include three German companies, Loewe Opta GmbH, Metz-Werke GmbH & Co. KG and KATHREIN-Werke KG, who are all licensing Gemstar TV-Guide's patents for use in televisions, records, and set-top boxes. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed. Gemstar holds a portfolio of patents related to interactive program guides, which it licenses to firms globally.
