Gizmo's Robertson: Skype SIP Support "Vaporware"

Michael Robertson, the former founder of MP3.com and head of San Diego-based voice-over-IP firm Gizmo5, is calling Skype's new SIP support "vaporware," saying today that his firm is unveiling version 2.0 of its working, OpenSky hosted SIP service today. OpenSky is a SIP-to-Skype gateway run by Gizmo5 which allows voice-over-IP devices using the open SIP standard to both make and receive calls from Skype. eBay's Skype service said yesterday that it was rolling out a new product which would allow companies to connect their SIP-based PBX phone systems into its network. Gizmo5 launched its OpenSky effort in early February, allowing users of any VoIP software, network, or phone system to make calls to the Skype VoIP network. Both Gizmo5 and eBay charge companies who use the services to connect callers into the Skype network.
