Top Engineering Minds Gather In LA For Awards Event

The IEEE, an industry group which represents electrical engineering, computer science, and other related professions, held an event Thursday night in Los Angeles, honoring eighteen scientists and engineers which the group described as the "top minds in technology." The event, held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, honored former Intel chairman Craig Barrett, along with a number of other scientist and engineering, including two local residents. The two local engineers and researchers who were recognized by the group were Albert Myers, a consultant based in La Habra Heights, for his work on flight control systems and flight testing of the B-2 stealth bomber, and Robert McEliece, a professor at the California Institute of Technology, for his work on error-correcting codes and the design of deep space telecommunication systems. Other awardees were inventors of DRAM memory, key researchers on brodband optical fiber communications; digital signal processing; flash memory; and others.
