Kyocera, SPH Halt Legal Battle

San Diego-based Kyocera, including Kyocera Corp, Kyocera Wireless Corp, and Kyocera Communications Inc. reported this week that the companies have reached a 180-day standstill agreement with SPH America, which has resulted in the dismissal of four lawsuits by the respective firms. SPH and Kyocera were engaged in a patent lawsuit battle over technology used in Kyocera's cell phone products. SPH had claimed that Kyocera had violated its intellectual property, and was looking to bar import of some of Kyocera's phones. The agreement drops four suits, plus an action in the ITC. The suits in question were In re Certain Wireless Devices and Components Thereof, Inv. No. 337-TA-675, SPH America LLC vs. Kyocera Corp., et al., Civil Action No. 08-CV-2146, Kyocera Wireless Corp. vs. SPH America LLC, Civil Action No. 09-CV-0299, and SPH America LLC vs. Kyocera Corp., et al., Civil Action No. 09cv276.
