Broadcom Ships Smartphone Chip

Irvine-based Broadcom announced this morning that it has shipped a new, single-chip HSPA (high-speed packet access) baseband processor and radio frequency transceiver, targeted at the 3G smart phone market. According to the firm, the new chip is based on its 65 nanometer CMOS process, and is aimed at helping manufacturer build next generation 3G HSUPA phones. The firm said the new device can run such operating systems as Windows Mobile and Android. Broadcom said the BCM21553 baseband processor is available now, but did not release pricing.
