Xirrus Wins Local School District

Thousand Oaks-based Xirrus, which develops Wi-Fi networking devices, reported today that it has deployed its Wi-Fi arrays at the Corona-Norco Unified School District. The firm said the district is using its 802.11n Wi-Fi arrays at several of its schools. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. The school said that it selected Xirrus because of the ability to handle user density provided by classrooms. Xirrus develops a wireless networking device which combines multiple Wi-Fi access points into a single, switched platform, which allows for both higher bandwidth and more users within the range of an access point. Xirrus appears to have found a strong niche for its products in the education market, having announced a long string of school and school district wins. The firm is backed by August Capital, Canaan Partners, Interwest, QuestMark, and U.S. Venture Partners, and is headed by Dirk I. Gates, whose last success was Xircom.
