GameSalad Rolls New Publishing Service

Los Angeles- and Austin-based GameSalad, which develops software to easily create iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad games, said today that it has released a new publishing service and product. The firm said it has launched GameSalad Studio, which includes it free GameSalad Creator game creation software, GameSalad Viewer, a new Apple iOS application for game testing, and a new game publishing service, GameSalad Direct. GameSalad said the new Studio and publishing service will pull together games built by its users under a common label.

According to GameSalad, its new game publishing service will allow its developers to publish both commercial and free games. The firm said it will charge a small fee to cover the cost of submission of games to Apple's App store, and that it will share revenues with commercial games but not charge free games anything additional above submission fees.

The company--which was formerly known as Gendai Games--said the move to publish games under a common label will help users better discover their software. Currently, games which had been developed using GameSalad Creator had been released independently into the App store. In addition to the new tools, GameSalad said it has created GameSalad Accelerator, a program for its "top-performing" game makers, which will link game creators with major brand owners and services. GameSalad is headed by Michael Agustin.
