SharesPost Names New CEO

Santa Monica-based SharesPost, the online marketplace for private company shares, is announcing today that it has appointed David Weir as CEO. Weir was most recently at Spring Creek Advisory Group, LLC, a firm providing merger and acquisition advice, and was also President and CEO of OffRoad Capital and a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan & Co. SharesPost's marketplace is for the shares of privately held, venture backed companies, including such firms as Facebook, Twitter, and others. The firm provides research reports, and brokers transactions between shareholders--usually, founders and employees with vested stock--and potential buyers of that private stock. The firm was founded to help unlock some of the value of private held, venture backed firms which have been unable to reach an exit event, and has also been used by executives to diversify their holdings beyond their own stock options.
