MP3Tunes Gets New Competition From Amazon

San Diego-based MP3Tunes, the cloud music storage service startup headed by Michael Robertson, has some stiff new competition today. Amazon.com said last night that it has launched its own, cloud music and storage service called Amazon Cloud Drive, along with corresponding web and Android music players. Amazon.com said it will offer up 5 GB of cloud storage for music and other files for free, with upgrade to 20GB for users who purchase MP3 albums from Amazon. The firm will also offer up general storage for $20 a year for 20GB of storage. The new Amazon service is a direct competitor to MP3Tunes, a music locker service started by Robertson, a serial entrepreneur known for MP3.com, Gizmo5, and Linspire, among other companies.
