Sony Sees Another Massive Hack Attempt

Sony reported last night that it has detected another, massive hacking attack on its Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network, and Sony Online Entertainment, which it said affected approximately 93,000 accounts on the services. Sony, which runs its online services out of San Diego, said hackers attempted to test a "massive set" of sign-in IDs and passwords against its database, which had been gathered by hackers from compromised lists from other web sites. Sony said it has temporarily locked out the compromised accounts, and is now requiring secure password resets for those accounts. The company encouraged its users to select unique, hard to guess passwords which were not shared between online services and sites. Sony had been hit by a severe hacking attack in May, which resulted in the loss of 24.6 million accounts and shut down its online services for several months.
