Yahoo Employees Get Free Lunch, But Not In Santa Monica

Yahoo, which finally has a new CEO, former Googler Marissa Mayer, has brought back one of the most cherished startup institutions: free lunch, at least in Sunnyvale, according to AllthingsD. The move--which doesn't apply to Yahoo's employees in Santa Monica or elsewhere in Southern California--looks to be the first attempt to shift the culture at Yahoo, which has been battling a lengthy death spiral after a series of CEOs. As part of those moves, Yahoo is also reportedly looking to start back into the acquisitions game, which once upon a time helped power the rise and success of Southern California's startup scene. Once powerful Yahoo once was one of the primary acquirers of Southern California startups, having acquired local companies MusicMatch in 2004, Upcoming.org in 2005, Overture.com in 2003, and Geocities, way back in 1999. In the article, AllThingsD said that Ross Levinsohn, who had been serving as interim CEO at Yahoo, is apparently planning to leave the company.
