SpaceX Wins Satellite Launch Contract With Spacecom

Hawthorne-based commercial spaceflight firm Space Exploration Technologies said Tuesday afternoon, along with Israeli satellite operator Space Communication Ltd. (Spacecom), that SpaceX has agreed to launch a Spacecom satellite into space. The two said that SpaceX will launch Spacecom's AMOS-6 satellite into space on the Falcon 9, placing that company's satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. The launch is scheduled for 2015. Spacecom's satellite is being built to provide communications services and direct satellite Internet for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
