Sotera Wireless Finds $14.8M For Wireless Medical Monitoring

Sotera Wireless, the developer of medical devices for wirelessly monitoring patients, has raised $14.8M in a funding round, the firm said this morning. The funding round came from Safeguard Scientifics, and also included Delphi Ventures, Sanderling Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, EDBI, Intel Capital, Cerner Capital and West Health Investment Fund.

Sotera Wireless is a developer of a wireless patient monitoring product called ViSi Mobile, which it says provides comprehensive vital signs monitoring. Those sensors allow patients to move around a hospital or other care facility, while still being continuously monitored. Sotera said that will help reduce avoidable deaths in hospitals due to inadequate patient monitoring.

Sotera said that it will use the new funding to accelerate commercialization and clinical development of its products; the new investment gives Safeguard a 7.7 percent stake in Sotera. Sotera Wireless is led by Tom Watlington.
