CAP Wireless Acquired By TriQuint

Newbury Park, California-based CAP Wireless, a developer of RF amplifiers based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, has been acquired by TriQUint Semiconductor. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been announced. CAP Wireless develops RF amplifiers which replace traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) in communications and defense systems. TriQuint says it expects the TWTA market to be worth $600M by 2015. CAP Wireless was founded by Charles Abronson, a serial enterpreneur who also founded Amplica (acquired by ComSat) and EEsof (acquired by HP/Agilent), and was headed by Fred Sturm. CAP Wireless develops its platform based on gallium arsenide-based (GaAs) MMICs.
