Donuts Launches Domain Trademark Protection Service

Donuts, the domain name registry companies targeting the emerging generic, top-level domain name (gTLD) market, has launched a new service aimed at protecting trademarks across its portfolio of gTLDs, the company announced today. Donuts--which has major operations in Los Angeles--said that its new Domains Protected Marks List (DPML) service will allow trademark owners to protect all of their terms, across its range of gTLDs, at a cost significantly less than the usual practice of defensively registering domain names. Pricing on the new service was not disclosed. Donuts said the service will block trademark related terms from registration across all of the gTLDs it manages, which include .BUSINESS, .EMAIL and .SERVICES. Donuts is offering up the service in five and ten year increments. The company said the service will make it easy to protect trademarks at a "fraction of the cost" of the normal industry practice of buying up domain names pertaining to a company's trademarks.
