D-Link Launches Into The Connected Home Market

Fountain Valley-based D-Link, best known for its networking products for the home, small business, and enterprise markets, is expanding into the connected home market today, with the launch of a new, Wi-Fi "smart plug"--which allows users to control any home electronic device from their Wi-Fi network. According to D-Link, its Wi-Fi Smart Plug is the very first product in a new line of connected home products from the company. The Wi-Fi "smart plug" allows consumers to plug any, standard product using a power plug, and control that device using an iOS or Android app, including setting power on/of schedules, turning devices on and off remotely, and monitoring energy usage. The new device costs $49.99. D-Link did not say what other kinds of connected home devices it might be planning. The new device competes against similar devices from Belkin, Control4, and others.
