Boingo Launches New Public Wi-Fi Design Approach

Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless said this morning that it has launched a new approach to deploying public, Wi-Fi access, which it calls S.M.A.R.T. Networks. According to Boingo, its new network design effort splits public Wi-Fi into various tiers of access, ranging from free, advertising and sponsorship supported Wi-Fi, up to 20MB enterprise Wi-Fi service. The company says S.M.A.R.T. stands for Secure, Multiplatform, Analytics-Driven, Responsive and Tiered. Boingo said it has begun deploying the new network design approach for airports, and will soon make it available to other, large-scale venues. Boingo currently provides Wi-Fi services at such locations at Chicago O'Hare, LAX, New York's John F. Kennedy, and Miami International.
