Companies Propose $8 Billion Green Energy Initiative For LA

Four companies said today that they have proposed a new, $8 billion initiative which will provide a huge amount of clean electricity to the Los Angeles area, which combines the creation, of one of America's largest wind farms, a huge energy storage facility, and a 525-mile, transmission line, to help power an estimated 1.2 million LA area homes. The initiative--being proposed by Pathfinder Renewable Wind Energy, Magnum Energy, ZDresser Rand, and Duke-American Transmission--would be the largest, clean energy project in the United States. According to the companies, the project would provide 9.2 million megawatt-hours -- more than twice the Hoover Dam, and would use a wind farm in Wyoming to generate 2,100 megawatts of electricity, with a compressed air energy storage facility built in a underground salt formation near Delta, Utah, with energy storage capacity of 60,000 megawatt-hours of electricity. All of that would be connected with a $2.6 billion, 525 mile electric line to move all that electricity between Wyoming and Utah. The four companies have not where they expect to get the $8 billion needed to build the proposed project.
