YouTube's New Investments Aimed At Hollywood Creators

Google's YouTube has created a huge upswing in content and media startups-and fortunes--in Los Angeles, with the rise of multi-channel networks. A new effort by YouTube to fund individual content creators--announced last week--might further fuel that fire. YouTube has not said how much it will invest in the new, individual investments in content creators, but the company says it hopes to create new content on YouTube, and help broaden the appeal of the content being produced by that talent. YouTube said that its earlier effort to fund multi-channel networks have resulted in eighty-six of those channels among the top 1 percent of its most popular content. Image: YouTube Space LA.
