Belkin Opens New R&D Lab In Seattle

Los Angeles-based Belkin International, the computer accessories and products developer led by Chet Pipkin, said this morning that it has expanded its offices in Seattle, and created a new R&D lab called WeMo Labs. The company said the new, research and development team will focus on developing sensing and machine learning technologies for the Internet of Things market, and will also collaborate with the University of Washington on research. Belkin has long had an office in Seattle, since 2010, when it acquired startup Zensi, the foundation of Belkin's existing connected home products. Zensi was based on research from University of Washington professor Shwetak Patel, who also serves as Belkin's Chief Scientist.
