TrueCar Cuts Ties With AutoNation

Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the provider of negotiation-free, car buying services which is led by Scott Painter, said late Thursday evening that it has ended a partnership it has with AutoNation. TrueCar said that AutoNation had represented 3.1 percent of its total revenues in the first quarter of 2015, and that it estimates that its users supplied 7 percent of AutoNation's Q1 2015 new vehicle sales.

The two cut ties after a dispute over sharing of customer information. TrueCar said it "could not make an exception" to its requirements to provide customer data for AutoNation. TrueCar requires dealers provide it with both inventory and sales data as a requirement of being a dealer in its network--a requirement that AutoNation has been fighting since last year. TrueCar and AutoNation had been working together since 2006.
