Masimo Aims At Zika Virus Market

Irvine-based life sciences equipment maker Masimo, in a bit to drum up business in areas affected by the Zika virus, says it will offer up its continous hemoglobin monitoring (SpHb) products at a discount in areas where the blood supply has been affected by the virus. The company says its equipment has been shown to reduce blood transfusions in both low and high blood loss surgery. Masimo said it will offer up its equipment at a 50% disount in areas specifically affected by the Zika virus. The announcement comes three days after the FDA issued an advisory recommending testing for the Zika virus in all donated blood in the United States, and there have been scattered reports of blood shortages due to concern over blood donations from donors who might have visited Zika affected areas, such as Florida.
