Local Robotics Team Competes In NASA Space Robotics Challenge

A local, Los Angeles-area team is one of 20 finalists in the NASA Space Robotics Challenge, with the chance to win part of $600,000 in prizes, to be awarded later today. According to NASA, Coordinated Robotics, based in Newbury Park, California, is one of just 20 teams which competed in the final round at NASA's Space Center Houston this week. The team and the other 19 competitors developed software technologies in a virtual environment, aimed at use someday on real robotic hardware, tackling software coding challenges to program a virtual robot to complete a series of tasks in simulation. Those tasks included aligning a communications dish, repairing a solar array, and fixing a habitat leak on Mars, the aftermath of a simulated dust storm that damaged a Martian habitat.
