    Gateway Recalls 14000 Laptop Batteries

Irvine-based Gateway, Inc., has recalled approximately 14,000 lithium ion battery packs for its laptops, because of the threat that the batteries might pose a fire risk, the firm said Tuesday afternoon. According to Gateway, a manufacturer of computer systems, the battery packs can potentially overheat and create a fire hazard. According to Gateway, the recall affects battery packs shipped as primary or spare batteries for its 400VTX and 450ROG series notebooks, sold between May 2003 to August 2003. The battery recall is similar to a massive recall of batteries across the laptop industry in 2006.
