Gateway Rolls Out New Low-Cost PC Line

Irvine-based Gateway has rolled out a new line of PCs in time for the holiday season. The company's eMachines brand rolled out five new PCs, including a $339 desktop PC and $799 notebook PC. The company said that it would expand distribution of its PCs through Wal-Mart, specifically targeting a notebook PC for holiday promotions. Five of the PCs include 64-bit processors, based on the AMD Athlon 64 line of processors. The new W4605 notebook PC weighs 5.5 pounds and uses the AMD Sempron 2800+ processor. The company said that the notebook will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart. The company also rolled out a new low-cost 17-inch LCD display. Gateway purchased eMachines in February of 2004.
