Google Invests $10M In eSolar

Pasadena-based, grid-scale, utility solar systems developer eSolar has received $10M in funding from Google, Google.org confirmed Thursday as part of the launch of several new initiatives at the search engine giant's nonprofit arm. Google said Thursday that it has launched three new initiatives Thursday, targeted at identifying hot spots and enable rapid response to emerging threats such as pandemics and global warming; supporting the growth of small and medium sized businesses in the developing world; and improving public services in Sub Saharan Africa and India. Google had announced it was working with eSolar -- which is backed by Idealab, and chaired by Bill Gross -- in November.
