Illumina Ordered To Pay $96M In Patent Suit

San Diego-based life sciences equipment maker Illumina has been ordered to pay $96M to Syntrix Biosystems, in a patent litigation suite, the company said Thursday. Illumina said a federal jury in Tacoma, Washington found that its BeadChip array product infringed on a patent asserted by Syntrix Biosystems. Illumina said the firm plans to appeal the finding and strongly disagrees with the verdict, and says that it believes Syntrix's claim are without merit.
