Illumina Targets Cancer Research With New Tools

San Diego-based life sciences equipment maker Illumina said this morning that it has launched a new set of products aimed specifically at the oncology market. According to Illumina, it has launched a new set of products aimed at discovery and translation of genomic variation in blood and tissue associated with cancer. All of the products are based on its core set of sequencing and microarray scanning systems. The new products include a product for analyzing RNA; a panel for identifying somatic mutations in myeloid malignancies; plus software apps specifically aimed at cancer research. The company said the goal of the new products is to expand use of its sequencing systems beyond basic research and into clinical research for oncology.
