Inventor Wins $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize
An inventor of technology for focusing sound over distances has won the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT prize. Elwood G. Norris, founder and Chairman of San Diego-based American Technology Corporation, was awarded the prize Lemelson-MIT Prize for inventing technology that creates highly directional sound using ultrasonic energy to focus sound exactly where it is targeted. The technology has potential uses in automobiles, museums, and grocery stores. The Lemelson-MIT prize is considered one of the largest and most prestigious awards given to inventors each year here in the U.S. It is awarded to an individual who demonstrates "remarkable inventiveness and creativity, and a proven commitment to inspiring others".
